The next installment of SVA's web series Joes@Moe's finds host Zipeng Zhu (BFA 2013 Design) in conversation with BFA Illustration faculty member Steve Brodner, a prolific, award-winning illustrator and political cartoonist.
Ever-effusive, Brodner fields Zhu's questions with insight and enthusiasm, covering his favorite things about teaching, how to survive as an illustrator and the intersection of illustration and politics. Brodner's piquant political caricatures and keen editorial vision are frequently featured in The Washington Post, The New York Times and The Los Angeles Times. A longtime contributor to The Nation, Brodner recently joined the curatorial team of Opp Art, a new illustration blog sponsored by the magazine that delivers daily "artistic dispatches from the front lines of resistance." Opp Art's launch will be celebrated at the SVA Theatre on Tuesday, December 5, as part of an evening dedicated to the release of the new issue of World War 3 Illustrated, a semi-annual comics magazine dedicated to social commentary and journalism, for which Brodner supplied the latest back cover and has often provided work throughout the years. Check out the videos below to discover Brodner’s words of wisdom and wit.
Stay tuned for future episodes of Joes@Moe's with Zipeng Zhu for more compelling conversations with other members of the SVA community.
